Dallas Fashion Coach, Julie Bartlett, introduces Colour IQ Intern: Nida Muhammedi.
We are so excited to have Nida join our team! Nida is a University of North Texas student with a double major in Fashion Merchandising and Digital Retail. Nida called us last year to interview me for her Intro to Merchandising class and kept in touch. Her easy laugh and love of fashion made it an easy connection and we happy to see it blossom into an internship. Nida will bring her collegiate insights to our blogs, new programs, and special events. Here is what she has to say about a most common body issue: Fix It Then Flaunt It!
As much as people want to change their bodies for the better and “fix their flaws,” you have to work with what you have in the present! The best way to dress your body is by accepting it first.
If you have a short torso and would like to lengthen it, do not be afraid of a dropwaist dress—they are your friends! The dropwaist dress will elongate your torso and make you appear taller. Dropwaist dresses should be paired with heels to make it all flow even better without making you appear short.
Do you want to lengthen your legs and make them look sky high? Flared trousers with heels can do that for you. A trouser that gently flares out from just below the knee will give you a seamless, lengthening look. Add a pair of heels to give you a couple extra inches, make sure the hem breaks on your shoe, and your legs will look much longer!
To create a tiny waist, use a wide belt and slip it just below your rib cage, the narrowest point on the body. The wide belt will synch in your waist and make your waist appear tiny, which will drive the eye away from any other flaws you wish to mask. Just remember, if you have a long torso the belt should be wide, and if you have a short torso the belt should be narrow. Two narrow belts will provide you with great waist definition.
Need curves? Peplums are your friend. A peplum top will instantly make your hips appear curvier and give you the feminine touch you desire.
A pair of high waist jeans will help hide any extra tummy you do not want to world to see. The last thing you want to do is wear low-cut or midrise jeans because that will only draw the eye to your tummy area, and accentuate something you want to conceal.
