Looking your best does not have to empty your bank account. You can look like a million without spending it – if you know when and where to shop. Just as fashion has seasonal cycles, so does the sale cycle as shops flush their stock to make way for new trends for the new season. If you shop on the correct wave, you have an opportunity to make some fantastic finds without having to become an extreme couponer.
According to the September 2011 issue of Glamour magazine, the best time to purchase jeans and handbags is September thru early November. This might be the reason for the astronomically high number of handbags that are currently on sale at Macy’s! With prices ranging from 16.99 for a tote from American Rag to a Cole Haan mini satchel for 335, we can all wear designer, even on a budget. The key to sale shopping is variety across your seasonal classics from winter to summer and back again. This is your opportunity to stock up for the year, so think about the types of bags that you like to use year-round not just totes big enough to carry your Christmas gifts and wallet at the same time. See our post, “How to Bag the Right Bag,” for suggestions on buying the right bag for your body, no matter the weather.
Jeans are on an upswing in sales prices as well. At Macy’s designer jeans, 7 for all Mankind, are now 40+ dollars off and the and Levi’s start at 34.99. The sale page at Dillard.com boasts “new lower price” on almost every pair of jeans as well. Again, think of what you like to wear throughout the year and look for for full-length pants as those trends change less often than for capri’s or shorts. As it is the end of the season, most department stores and boutiques are currently on a sale cycle so great finds are waiting to be found!
