Dallas Fashion Consultant, Julie Bartlett, of Colour IQ , says: ‘Etiquette? It’s always in fashion!’
Learning etiquette and good manners in this “text me” world of delete and file responses allows us to develop healthy relationships in all areas of life. Why do manners matter? Knowing conduct which reflects self-respect and respect for others is key to getting along with others in our personal lives as well as at work.
- Writing and Replying to E-Mails: Never write or reply by e-mail in anger. Nothing should ever be written that you would not write and send on a post card. Remember that work e-mails are the property of the company and can be retrieved by them anytime.
- Maintaining Good Hy-gene: If you’re sick, stay home. When you sneeze, use a tissue to contain it. Wash your hands when you use the restroom. Moisturize your skin to keep it hydrated and less prone to infection. Drink water…every day…often.
- Sunglasses: When you are meeting someone for the first time, remove your sunglasses. People wish to see the face and eyes of the person they are meeting and sunglasses give the impression you may be concealing something. Medieval knights raised their helmet visor when meeting another. Not to do so was a challenge.
We have only scratched the surface of what is a glacier of information concerning proper etiquette and good manners. Have an etiquette question? Let us know how we can help you confidently enter any social arena.
